Al Letizio, Jr. to Run for Board of Selectmen
Chairman Bruce Breton will step down in March for health reasons.
A local businessman who has made plenty of headlines over the past six months made another on Monday when he announced his candidacy for the Windham Board of Selectmen.
Al Letizio, Jr., president of A.J. Letizio Sales and Marketing Inc., publicized his campaign Monday by creating a page on Facebook.
"I'm running for selectman because I hope to offer my experience as a business leader, community volunteer, and advocate of conservative principles to help strengthen our community while reducing the burden of taxation on Windham residents," Letizio said in a statement.
Letizio, who stepped into the public spotlight in August as a conservative supporter of former Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney, will seek the expiring seat of fellow Windham Republican Bruce Breton.
Breton currently serves as chairman of the Windham board. He also made headlines last week when he was announced as chairman of the Windham Republican Town Committee.
According to Letizio's campaign page, Breton will not re-election due to health reasons. Breton's term is finished in March.
Letizio has extensive experience on the school side of politics in Windham, having been elected twice and appointed twice to the school board. He also served as chairman of the board during the Windham High School project.
He is currently serving on the Windham Economic Development Committee.
A.J. Letizio Sales & Marketing is located just off Interstate 93 on Indian Rock Road. The company has been active since 1982. The Letizio family has been in the food service industry for 100 years.
Selectmen Phil LoChiatto and Kathleen DiFruscia will see their terms expire in March 2014. Selectmen Roger Hohenberger and Ross McLeod were re-elected in March 2012 to new, three-year terms.
