Local seniors were treated to some holiday cheer in the form of a holiday concert at Windham High School.

Local senior citizens received a healthy dose of holiday cheer during an exclusive concert put on for them by members of the high school music department.

Musicians from the jazz band, vocalists from the honors choir and a special choir from the school's Mandarin Chinese class performed samplings of well-known seasonal hits in the Windham High School auditorium.

The jazz band features several soloists during its renditions of songs such as Sweet Georgia Brown, White Christmas and Sleigh Ride.

The first choir sang a bevy of well-known songs such as "Silent Night" and "For Unto Us a Child is Born." The second choir offered a Mandarin version of "Jingle Bells."

Karen Seyward, Dean of Fine Arts for WHS, introduced the event by telling the local seniors in attendance that they "really enjoy performing" for them.

"You are very special to us," said Seyward.

Directing the jazz band was WHS staff member Jared Cassedy.

Many of the songs were samplings from last week's holiday concerts, which also took place at WHS.

Many of the seniors in attendance were brought in from Windham Terrace and Silverthorne Adult Day Center in Salem. A breakfast was also held as part of the annual tradition.
