Team Mearls Hosts Charity Bash for Bruins Foundation
The event will take place on March 23.
Kristina and Dan Mearls are hosting a Charity Bash at Castleton March 23 at 7 p.m. to raise money for their participation in the B.A.A. Boston Marathon Charity Program for 2013 through the Boston Bruins Charitable Foundation.
Dan Mearls has participated in the Pan-Mass Challenge for the last two years that raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through an annual bike-a-thon that crosses the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
“He enjoyed doing this and thought it would be for a good cause to raise money for the Bruins Marathon Team,” Kristina Mearls said.
The Boston Bruins Foundation is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to assist charitable organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children throughout New England.
Since its inception in July 2003 by the Jacobs Family, The Foundation has raised more than $12 million dollars through a series of fundraising events. The Foundation provides grants to organizations that meet the standards of its mission, and concentrates on athletics, academics, health, and community outreach programs that assist in helping enrich the lives of children throughout New England.
Each member of the Bruins team must raise $4,000 or more for the bruins designated charities.
The Mearls’ Charity Bash will help towards this cost. Tickets are $75 per person and it includes dinner, dancing and live music by Tuxedo Junction. There will be raffles and auction items.
The couple, who have two daughters ages 12 and 10, has run in the Chicago Marathon the past two years.
“We’re not the fastest runners, but we are committed to our team,” Kristina Mearls said. She and Dan have been training for two months already for the Boston Marathon.
“We’re at the half-way mark with our training,” she said.
