Windham Home Evacuated After Being Struck by Lightning

The Windham Fire Department responded to the house yesterday morning.

A Windham home was evacuated Monday morning after the owner reported that the house was struck by lightning, according to Windham Fire Chief Tom McPherson.

Fire and police officials responded to 18 Orchard Blossom Drive at 11:45 a.m.

The owner told officials that he could smell and odor and wood burning in the attic area.

Firefighters reported no visible smoke upon arrival, but they also detected an electrical odor in the attic.

After the home was cleared out, firefighters located an area on the roof where lightning had entered and traveled down the electrical wiring.

The lightning strike caused several smoke detectors as well as circuit breakers to be damaged.

Through the use of thermal imaging cameras, firefighters were able to determine that there was no fire in the residence.

Windham Building Inspector Michael McGuire was also called to the scene.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Derry Fire Department also provided assistance at the scene. The home was eventually turned back over to the property owner.
