I just watched that slideshow from the WCVB website and checked out the link one of the othersRead More provided.. Those numbers are alarming. It is not even close. It is pretty clear that the fighting dog is not out of this type of dog. Scary stuff.

@suz.... "a certain type of clientele"? Which type is that? Cesar Millan, Jessica Biehl,Read More Alicia Silverstone, Helen Keller, Dr. Phil, Ken Howard, Andrew Vachss, Teddy Roosevelt, Ira Glass, Rachael Ray, Jamie Foxx, Jon Stewart, General George Patton.... probably aren't the "type of clientele" that you envisioned as being Pit Bull owners and supporters. I own two rescued dogs - one Chihuahua-Jack Russel mix and one PB.

Suz not too bright are you?.... I'm just sayin'.

In December 2004, Stratham's Doug Scamman was elected New Hampshire Speaker of the House with theRead More support of Democrats and Republicans.

What are the rules on voting an inanimate object as Speaker? Cause that's a sure fire way toRead More preserve what freedom we have remaining in this state and a sure fire way to continue keeping what little of our paychecks we are still allowed to keep.
Stephen D. Clark April 23, 2014 at 07:13 pm
David, that's interesting to learn. I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the low-down. I tend toRead More suspect, though, that the nationalization of party politics is making such a scenario less likely these days, even in New Hampshire.

What I think is really scary and a public health threat is the violence PEOPLE do to pit bulls. WeRead More kill millions of them every year. They are tortured in fighting rings, look at what Vick did. Humans are a very dangerous breed. THere should be laws or something to protect the public--and animals--- from people.
tribble April 23, 2014 at 12:56 pm
#Kim, all the more reason for restrictions, such as spaying and neutering. Less animals to be hurtRead More in fighting pits or put in the pound, only to be put down.

My iPad has several e-reading apps. Credit: Danielle Masterson.
Danielle Masterson (Editor) April 23, 2014 at 11:27 am
So many excellent points. :) Like it was said here, I adore my iPad for magazines and newspapers. NoRead More more piles of magazines in the bedroom or overflowing recycling bins; no more issues lost in the mail! And, yes, as Book Oasis and others said, regular books will never be replaced. I think many of us will always use both. After all, when I meet my favorite authors, they can't sign my iPad, can they?! ;)
Danielle Masterson (Editor) April 23, 2014 at 11:28 am
@Tim H: Such a great point on the text-to-speech. I haven't explored this fully yet, but I justRead More started an Audible account. I downloaded a Doctor Who book with my free credit. But I got the Audible account for precisely what you said: Being able to read, switch to listening, then go back to reading. Maybe another blog post is in the works......
Tim H April 23, 2014 at 11:52 am
@Danielle, the audible only works good on your smartphone or an MP3 player. You can use it at theRead More gym when reading may not be as convenient (try rowing while reading -- listening works). Or go for a walk outdoors while listening to a book... just be careful crossing streets. I believe there are pronunciations issues with the text-to-speech as it tries to simulate speech instead of being an actual recording like the audio books. Each has it's advantages.

Mad as hell... April 22, 2014 at 11:28 pm
Savecritters...I appreciate your concern but like I said you may want to make sure your homeownersRead More insurance will cover that dog. When you're on the receiving end of a pit bull dog's attack it's hard to fathom the logic in owning one.
Savecritters....you lost the argument as soon as you wrote "...owned by countless movieRead More stars..." What the hell does that prove?
tribble April 23, 2014 at 06:53 am
Yeah, Miley Cyrus' pit bull killed her little doggie last fall. The other dog that just died...it'sRead More being covered up how it died. That's why all the articles that mention coyote say "allegedly".

she courted the tea party patriots in New Hampshire before she was elected, but I think everyoneRead More drowns in the powerful two party swamp that is Washington, DC when they get there. I don't how we change that. I think that fiscal constraints on congress would help curb their power. I think that a simple tax code that everyone pays with no deductions for anyone would curb that power. I think that demanding that congress take a pay cut to the national average wage and pay for their own benefits would curb that power. can't live in DC on the national average wage? too bad.

For the record, Magic Johnson contracted HIV (not AIDS) through sex with a reported 10,000 differentRead More women. Do you actually believe you can only contract HIV though gay sex??? Christie, your comments are so ridiculously ignorant, that I’m almost willing to believe that you are putting us all on. I almost believe that there’s some poster who created this character of an extremely ignorant bible-thumping woman, and he is right now having a great laugh at how he’s put one over on us all. If that’s the case, then my hat’s off to you!
christie nicolle April 23, 2014 at 11:48 am
wait Hookerman - out of those 10,000 chicks, 1 of them slept with a homosexual -- frankly I heard heRead More was on the 'low down' but either way, his promiscuity got him. So my point is Salient! The bible warns that the wages of sin is death -- what more do you want? HAPPY EASTER!
ChristieD April 23, 2014 at 06:50 pm
Hookerman; thank you very much for differentiating me from ChristieN. I very much appreciate that.Read More Let me remind you, however, ChristieN's status as a "Christian" has endowed her knowledge on every possible situation where something is unknown. God must speak to her in some special way in those voices that she hears in her head (.....ChristieN; this is god, and I want you to spread the gospel of good news that Magic Johnson had gay sex and is going to hell........and by the way, judgment is a sin; WAIT, cut that one out....erase erase erase)

You making a few assumptions there meat-stick. First, I wouldn't claim that we have the bestRead More healthcare system in the world, I might say we have the best doctors money can buy though. I also didn't say anything remotely close to wanting to protect "my anything" by denying millions of people access "to anything". What I was trying to say is.... I don't want my country turned into just another socialist nation with massive debt and lemmings and muppets for citizens. You can ignore the point of not letting the government take over your life all you want...You can ignore what all those "ignorant old white dudes" knows as the "Founding Fathers" warned us about, in crafting the guidelines of government, if you choose to do so... It will be a debt paid by someone in your lineage at some point.

If OBAMACARE is so Great then why is it that all the Politicians that voted for it weren't the FIRSTRead More ONES to sign up for it ???? WHY Aren't Kuster, Shaheen and Shea Porter MANDATED to sign up for this TRAIN WRECK!!!!
jpf2361 April 23, 2014 at 09:44 am
Of the 8 Million supposedly "NEWLY INSURED " individuals of ObamaCare, how many haveRead More actually paid their premiums??? Of these 8 million how many are from the targeted groups for healthcare, as in young adults that will be helping to pay the premiums for the older generation that have medical issues??? If Barry's administration can't provide these numbers then HOW CAN THEY CLAIM OBAMACARE IS A SUCCESS??? >>>> Prior to Kathleen Seblius leaving her post she said the Premiums for ObamaCare would be increasing due to the FACT that most of the 8 Million "NEW SUBSCRIBERS" were elderly and sick and would qualify for the majority of subsidies, which would drive up the costs to others. So AGAIN. How is this a Victory for Barry and his minions, as Barry had promised that his plan would save citizens, on average $2,500.00 per year. His other promise which turned out to be the LIE OF THE CENTURY was that if you Liked your Doctor and Healthcare Plan You Can KEEP THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't take that bet. Even if they do vote this time around, the fact that she was in Concord andRead More didn't vote either way has made my mind up. When you are in a leadership position you make a decision. Right or wrong; it's your choice. Not doing anything is the worst possible choice.

Definitely will add these to my long, long list of "to reads". Maybe I'll live longRead More enough to get to them all. Just finished an oldie but goodie ... but you know? The stories only stay with me for a while, I read so much that I forget what I've already read and after the first few pages, I get into it again and often continue since I liked it the first time around. There will never be enough hours in any day to read all I want to and thank goodness and God for Goodreads and, of course, my library and you, Danielle, for adding to my lists. Was offered a Kindle but know what? I really prefer to hold that book in my lap to read, plus I prefer to use my library ... it's FREE, for goodness sake, why would I pay to read anything but a newspaper? And, even that can be gotten at the library. If nothing else, I just love the smell of a library! (Sorry for my longwinded-ness ... just love, love books.)
Mamie Huggins April 20, 2014 at 08:37 am
Hey Anna - I'm a book lover too and use the library on occasion. But it's not FREE as you say, it'sRead More paid for by us taxpayers. Also, when I buy a book, especially by an unknown and/or local author, I'm helping that person to keep writing.
Anna Bucciarelli April 20, 2014 at 05:48 pm
Of course you're right Mamie but if I don't have to part with an additional penny from my pocket IRead More feel it's a treat. And you're right too about keeping authors writing I especially like books by new, first-time novelists who often surprise me with the wonder of their words.

Fake Boss Hogg. Kinda funny coming from a guy that picked "Almost Brilliant" as a handleRead More a week ago...
Notbricktrash April 22, 2014 at 01:04 pm
This guy is psycho I see all negative posts on this breed. Us all who are for the breed let's postRead More positive things. This guy has no life obviously to sit and pick apart a breed. My dad was a meter reader in the day he was attacked and bitten 9 times on different occasions. 2 of them were German sheps, rest were ankle biters. ALL dogs bite. My parents were ignorant with pit bulls I remember my neighbors bf had them in my yard when I was a kid and my moms screaming they are vicious get inside. (They were sweet dogs) that goes with them being uneducated about the breed. They witnessed my neighbors pit mauling the neighbors small dog (their dog was nice until the crack heads put him in a cage 24/7) they are like till recently they are dangerous blah blah blah and know what I educated them I now rescued a pit lab who is a big baby and whom my parents adore. I cross post animals all over and many are pit bulls. They say 1 of 600 finds homes. It's sad cause in my dad's years of meter reading not one pit bull attacked him. 2 days in a row I saw 2 pits running in and out of traffic on a main road by my house. Almost hit them. I got out of my car called them over (had no fear as if it were a smaller dog or a shep) they came to me I grabbed their collars and what did they do? They licked me. I'm in school to be an nj Animal control officer and an associates in vet tech and I can bet you in my life I will support the pit breed in some successful way. I will never hate the breed or judge them. I've got bitten by a smaller dog breed do I judge them? No. So educate before you discriminate
