Will Windham Get Ice or Rain This Weekend?

Latest weather forecasts have the rain/ice line cutting through New Hampshire.

It's just days before Christmas and winter is most definitely in the air.

A good amount of precipitation will begin to fall through that cool air Saturday into Sunday, and some areas of New Hampshire are likely to see sleet and freezing rain with the possibility of up to an inch of ice accumulation.

The good news, at least for Windham residents, is that current projections have the ice line near Concord.

That doesn't mean southern New Hampshire will escape unscathed and dry.

Rain is projected from Saturday afternoon through Monday, and the greater Manchester area does have freezing rain advisories in effect through 7 a.m. Monday.

Friday night, New Hampshire State Police issued the following advisory for those who do end up caught in the ice path:

The National Weather Service is warning of a potential ice storm beginning early Sunday morning (just after midnight on Saturday) and continuing throughout the day on Sunday.  As they monitor the weather pattern and temperatures, it appears that the northeast area of the State will feel the greatest effects of ice accumulation, any where from .5 inches to approximately 1 inch.  As we know, ice accumulation  on the roadway can make for very unsafe driving conditions.   Please be aware that often times ice accumulation may be accompanied by power outages, downed wires, and downed tree limbs. Please try to avoid extraneous driving throughout the day on Sunday.  If you must be on the roadways, please:

Heed the warnings listed on the DOT messging signs,

Please slow down:  Slower speeds, slower acceleration, slower steering, and slower braking.

Allow extra space between your vehicle and others.

Keep both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road.  This is no time to be driving while distracted…put the cell phone away.

And ALWAYS buckle up!

If you must be on the roadways, give yourself extra time to reach your destination safely.  It's not worth putting yourself and others in a dangerous situation.

We at the New Hampshirte State Police believe safety is a team effort.  You, the motoring public, is our leading teammate.  Together we can be winners by making our highways safe during these inclement weather conditions.
