'Good Omen' May Save Bought-Out Local Workers

A local business that just brought 540 jobs to town may not be laying off its employees thanks to a big decision in a $180M merger.

Chris Crowell, the former chief executive officer of Enterasys in Salem, will become the chief operating officer of Extreme Networks now that the sale of Enterasys to Extreme Networks is complete, according to the New Hampshire Business Review.

NHBR has reported that Crowell negotiated the $180 million merger and will continue to live and work out of New Hampshire. NHBR also reported that Crowell's "New Hampshire presence might be seen as a good omen" for the roughly 1,000 Enterasys employees in Salem, as Extreme hasn't yet disclosed what it plans to do with the local workforce.

Enterasys relocated in January from their Andover, Mass., facility to Salem, bringing 540 jobs to the area.

Enterasys Networks is a privately-held, Salem-based provider of wired and wireless network infrastructure and security solutions. Extreme Networks specializes in high-performance Ethernet switching for cloud, data center and mobile networks, and serves over 6,000 customers in more than 50 countries.

MarketWatch.com has reported Enterasys, which has $330 million in annual revenues, will continue to operate separately until the closing of the transaction in the fourth quarter of this year.
