Windham Pink Wave Reaches Queen Latifah Show

Clad in pink, Windham brothers and mother fly to Los Angeles, get surprise message from well-known NFL coach.

Last month, Windham Patch reported on a fantastic phenominon that occured at Windham Middle School.

Seventh-grader Ryan Marotta, 12, who purchased and wore pink sneakers to school to honor his mother, Kimberly, a breast cancer survivor, was teased and second-guessed his decision.

That was, of course, until his older brother, Andrew, and several close friends became involved. A viral effort was initiated and, within days, the entire school was wearing pink to support breast cancer awareness.

The news reached Queen Latifah and last week, the brothers and mother were guests on the pop star's talk show.

The big surprise came when Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll made a surprise appearance, congratulating the younger Marotta on his bravery and initiative.

“Really proud of you,” said Carroll. “Our football team is excited about the fact that you took a stand, you showed the courage to do that, and you really did a good thing."
