Korean War Veteran Notched Three Holes in One

Mr. John W. “Jack” Rogers, of Windham, N.H., died on Thursday, December 12, 2013, in Salem, N.H., after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Jean M. (DiScipio) Rogers. He was born in Lynn, and was the son of the late John W. Rogers, Sr. and Alice (Mugherini) Rogers. He was raised in Lynn, and was a 1950 graduate of Lynn Classical High School. He was a 1958 graduate of Wentworth Institute and a 1965 graduate of Northeastern University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Rogers attended many management courses with Raytheon, the Army Security Agency and other Army schools. He lived in Lynn from 1932 to 1979, and in Windham since 1979.

Mr. Rogers was a Army combat veteran of the Korean War. He served with the 45th Infantry Division and the 24th Infantry Division. He received the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star and the UN Service Medal, as well as a Presidential Citation. He was a member of the American Legion in Manchester, N.H. He was a member of the Haverhill Golf and Country Club since 1983. He enjoyed the camaraderie, gamesmanship, sandbagging of golf and the leagues. He had three holes in one, played at many famous courses throughout the U.S. and Canada. He also enjoyed bowling.

Mr. Rogers was an engineering and program manager for Raytheon Corporation in their missile electrical systems division. He worked for Raytheon in their Andover, Lowell and Manchester, N.H., plants from 1958 to 1993. He worked on the Hawk and Patriot Missile System in the design and manufacturing. He was the holder of U.S. Patents and received company and U.S. Army Achievement awards. He worked in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Egypt for extended periods of time for Raytheon.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother James E. Rogers Sr. of Seabrook, N.H.; his nephews, James Rogers Jr. of Hampton, N.H., William DiScipio of Florida, and Paul DiScipio of Georgetown; and his nieces, Jennifer Rogers Burke of Andover, Andrea DiScipio of Brighton, and Susan Razai of Lynn.

His memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Solimine Funeral Home, Lynn, Mass.
