Obituary: Businessman Served in WWII

89-year-old general store owner had deep NH roots.

Windham – Local businessman Edward R. Mone passed away on November 18th after a period of declining health. He was born on July 21, 1924 to Thomas Mone and Yvonne Dumais.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he returned to Somersworth and purchased John Boivin’s General Store in Rochester with his partner, George Bickford. The store was re-named George & Ed’s General Store. Ed owned the store for almost 30 years. George & Ed’s is still in business in the same location under that name today. Ed became a fixture in the Rochester community, known for his quick smile and generous nature.

Surviving family members include his daughters, Anna-Marie Smith and Kathryn Buckless, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his wife Barbara (Pulsifer), son Michael and son-in-law Dan Buckless.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Friday, 11/22/2013. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rochester, NH, followed by internment at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington, NH. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to charitable organizations.
