Obituary: Emile J. 'Spud' St. Laurent

89-year-old had deep roots in the Salem/Windham area.

Emile J. “Spud” St. Laurent, 89, of Vero Beach, FL died August 22, 2013 at his son’s home in Windham, NH surrounded by his loving family. Mr. St. Laurent was born in Lawrence, MA on May 9, 1924 a son of the late Emile and Hazel (Carlstrom) St. Laurent. He had resided for the last 26 years in Vero Beach, summering in Kennebunkport, ME, formerly living in Salem, NH. Spud, as he was best known, retired from Raytheon after a lengthy employment. He volunteered at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Ft. Pierce, FL for the past 25 years. Spud was an avid cyclist, riding well into his late 80's. He also enjoyed ballroom and square dancing and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Ray St. Laurent and his wife Rhonda of Windham, NH, one daughter, Kim Dufresne and her fiance’ Gary Mooshian of Salem, NH, four grandchildren, Brad St. Laurent, Mark St. Laurent, Jason Dufresne, and Blair Dufresne, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Philip St. Laurent of Washington, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Madelyn “Micki” (Eichhorn) St. Laurent.

There are no calling hours. The family will hold private memorial services at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Rockingham VNA-Hospice, 137 Epping Rd., Exeter, NH 03833.
