Obituary: Mary L. (Addonizio) Gagliardi

96-year-old Windham resident used to work for Capri Pizza and 'adored being with young people.'

Mary L. (Addonizio) Gagliardi, 96, of Windham, NH died Wednesday, August 14th at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry.

Mary was born and educated in Chelsea, MA, the daughter of the late Felici (Qutuguo) and Generoso Addonizio. She worked at White Hen Pantry in Winthrop, MA and later at Capri Pizza in Windham. Mary was a faithful parishioner at St. Matthew’s Parish for nearly 40 years, and a regular volunteer at Shepherd’s Pantry in Windham where every Monday morning she greeted new and returning clients with her broad smile. She was a wonderful cook and baker, specializing in Italian dishes that she learned from her mother. For many years she walked 2 or 3 miles a day, stopping to talk with neighbors along the way. She adored being with young people.

The family sends heartfelt thanks to Mary’s devoted neighbors and friends whose generous assistance enabled her to remain in her home in her later years.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph.

Mary is survived by her sons, Joseph and his wife Susan of Holliston, MA and Richard and his wife Ruth of Mill Spring, NC and by her grandson, Matthew Gagliardi, his wife Julie and great granddaughter Emma Gagliardi of Rochester Hills, MI.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 21st from 4-6 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 22nd at 10 AM at St. Matthew’s Parish in Windham. Burial will follow in Cemetery on the Plain in Windham.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be sent to Shepherd’s Pantry, 1 Church St., Windham, NH 03087.
