My Experience Running For School Board

As with everyone in our community, I want what is best for our town, our parents, our students and teachers. I believe there are things that our School District does well, and that we also have areas that need improvement.

Over the past few weeks, I've focused my discussion on many of these areas so that Windham voters could better understand why I felt compelled to run.

Over the past few days, there have been exaggerated misrepresentations of my positions, and unfortunately, some of the comments have become quite pointed.

I hold no ill will towards anyone, because I believe we are all passionate in our desire to do what is best for our children, and ultimately for our community. We don't always agree, but that is not a bad thing -- in fact, in the right environment... it leads to healthy discussions and better solutions.

There are some good things that have come out of this election cycle. I believe that voters have become more educated on the issues: 40+% of 11th graders need improvement on their Math NECAP scores; the $40K speakers the administration just bought for the High School; the closing of the portables and moving the 3rd grade to the High School (related to problems brought forth last September by a Windham resident/contractor that were never addressed and could have been prevented).

These statements are not meant to be attacks... they represent facts. They represent the types of things I would like to improve upon. They represent the need to restore Trust, Fiscal Responsibility, Accountability, and Transparency to our school district. These are the reasons I decided to run.

Many people are asking for these types of changes. Together, as a community, we can improve on our approaches to solve our challenges and build an even better environment where our children will thrive. On this, I believe we all agree.

Regardless of who garners the most votes tomorrow -- the new School Board will be going into office and held to high expectations of accountability and transparency. This is a win-win for our children, teachers, school district, and our community.

God Bless all of the wonderful people who helped me with this endeavor.

Whomever you decide to vote for tomorrow is your sacred decision. Please make sure you exercise your Right to Vote!

Sincerely,

Ken Eyring
