Two incumbents held onto their seats, while one was defeated.

Three Democrats and two Republicans were elected to the Executive Council on Tuesday night.

In District 1, WMUR reports that Republican incumbent Raymond Burton of Bath defeated Democrat Beth Funicella of Jackson. In District 2, Democrat Colin Van Ostern of Concord beat out Republican Michael Tierney of Hopkinton. And in District 3, Republican incumbent Christopher Sununu of Newfields defeated Democrat Bill Duncan of New Castle.

In District 4, The Eagle-Tribune reports that Democrat Christopher Pappas of Manchester beat out Republican Robert Burns of Bedford. Republican incumbent Ray Wieczorek did not seek re-election to the seat.

And according to the Nashua Telegraph, Democrat Debora Pignatelli of Nashua regained her District 5 seat, beating out Republican incumbent David Wheeler of Milford.

Van Ostern, who was running for the open District 2 seat after attorney and at-large Concord City Councilor Dan St. Hilaire, a Republican, dropped out of the race, said he was "honored" to be elected.

"I look forward to working with Maggie Hassan and both Democrats and Republicans on the Council to move our state forward with a renewed focus on jobs and less government interference in our personal lives," he said in a statement.
