WHS Field Hockey Team Captures First Championship

Top-seeded Lady Jaguars complete run in overtime of state finale.

One year after finishing runners-up for the state crown and four years after the inception of their program, Windham High School's field hockey players can call themselves state champs.

Indeed, the Lady Jaguars swept through all playoff challengers and completed the task at hand in overtime of the Division II finale at Bedford High School on Sunday.

The 2-1 victory against sixth-seeded Merrimack Valley – capped by Courtney Sweeny's game winner less than two minutes into the extra session – represents WHS's first field hockey championship.

The Lady Jaguars finished the 2013 season with a 15-1-1 record.
