Windham Soccer Captain Named NH Student Athlete of the Month

WHS Senior exhibits leadership on and off the field.

The New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association announced its Student Athletes of the Month for October on Monday, and Windham's own Clairee Putnam earned the nod among Granite State female competitors.

The award is bestowed upon the athlete who best exhibits sportsmanship and excellence, both on and off the field.

According to an NHIAA release, its Student Athletes of the Month 'exemplify the ideals and values that are the cornerstone of school based athletics and are positive role models in their school and community.'

Windham Athletics Director Bill Raycraft said Putnam fits the bill.

“One of the most impressive things with Clairee isn’t her dominance on the field but the commitment to doing it the right way," said Raycraft. "She is one to help an opponent up off the floor and thank the officials. She does extra things you wish every student athlete would portray.”

Putnam, a senior at WHS, captains both the varsity soccer and basketball teams. She led a defense on the soccer pitch that allowed only two goals all season. In addition, she has recently committed to Saint Anselm College, where she'll play basketball.

Perhaps more importantly, she assists with the school's Jump Program – aimed at helping those with special needs – and maintains a 4.05 GPA. She's also a member of the school's student athlete leadership team.
