Public Hearings Scheduled on Town Budget, Recreation Field

Here are five things you should know this week in Windham.

1. Have your say on how your tax dollars are spent. Windham Selectmen have scheduled public hearings on a $180,000 bond to build a multi-use recreation field near Spruce Pond and on the proposed town budget and warrant for 2014. The hearings are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Community Development Department.

2. Commute hazard. In addition to icy roads, Monday morning's commute will also be hampered by thick low cloud cover. Due to visibility being restricted to a quarter mile or less an many areas of southern New Hampshire, a dense fog advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service through 10 a.m. Monday.

3. Warm weather? Today's forecast, according to Weather.com, calls for temperatures to rise to 48 degrees. The downside? It's expected to rain throughout the day as there is a 100-percent chance of precipitation today. Temperatures drop again quickly, however, as Monday night's low is 13 degrees.

4. On the agenda. The Windham School Board gathers at 7 p.m. on Tuesday Jan. 7 for a regularly scheduled business meeting. The board will have a public hearing on its proposed budget and bonds on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.

5. Get your 2014 hunting or fishing license. New Hampshire fishing and hunting licenses for 2014 are now available for purchase. Get yours early and be set for a WILD year of outdoor adventure, from ice fishing this winter to bagging your deer next fall.
