We are counting down the biggest 10 stories of 2012.
From the editor: As 2012 winds to a close, I am proud to say that Windham Patch is about to log its first complete year in the books. Since January, the town has seen a blend of stories. There have been articles of bravery, sorrow, leadership, accomplishment, teamwork, controversy and growth. All the while, many of you have come to my site as a direct source for your information, and for that I am thankful. You have found the site on Facebook and Twitter. You have called me personally or sent me an email to offer kind words or constructive criticism. Some have even stopped to have a chat with me in person as I've traveled around town. As we inch toward 2013, join me as I count down some of the biggest 10 stories of the year between Dec. 27…

Two tenants would occupy the new facility on the property.
Development is booming at the Castle Commons site on Range Road, and prospective plans could add a building with two new tenants. According to Chris Nickerson, developer of the Castle Commons, the new building would house Concord Orthopedics and Spindel Eye Associates. In the past five months, Nickerson has been behind the addition of five other medical businesses in a vacancy located in the main building on the property, including Derry Medical Center and Southern N.H. Internal Medicine Associates. Carl Moskey of Concord Orthopaedics said that the practice also has a location in Derry, located in the same medical park as Derry Medical and SNHIMA. Spindel Eye Associates also occupies the park, located on Tsienneto Road. "We're hopeful to …

The congressman held a campaign rally at the location just months ago when it was vacant.
In mid-April, U.S. Rep. Charles Bass, R-NH, spoke to voters in a vacant but promising space at Castle Commons on Range Road. "There was nothing but concrete and construction lights hanging from the ceiling," Bass said of his spring rally. Jump ahead to Oct. 18, when Bass stood in the same location, only the vacancy is now the main lobby of Windham's newest medical center. New Hampshire's two largest private medical practices – Southern N.H. Internal Medicine Associates and Derry Medical Center – now occupy the location along with three other businesses. Bass touted the prime location for the businesses during his appearance at an open house and ribbon-cutting event. "Just to the east of Route 93, it's a great spot," he said. "The …

An open house will also take place on Oct. 18.
Less than five months after a lease was signed for an 11,400-square-foot medical center at Castle Commons, the doors will officially open to patients today. A team of five businesses will provide healthcare in the new location, including Southern N.H. Internal Medicine Associates and Derry Medical Center. An open house will follow next week, Oct. 18., and will include possible appearances from U.S. Rep. Charles Bass, NH-2, and GOP gubernatorial candidate Ovide Lamontagne. Bass has frequented the site during its progression, holding a rally at the property before the lease was signed and coming back to visit during construction over the summer. Lamontagne was also present during the rally, which took place in April. One of the SNHIMA …

The 2nd district representative toured Castle Commons this afternoon.
Seeking another term in the U.S. Congress, Republican Congressman Charles Bass made a stop in Windham today to tour the Castle Commons facility on Range Road. Following his tour of the incoming medical developments and the recently completed Soleil Salon & Spa, Bass spoke about the upcoming election and the goal of calming the fears of the American public. "The nation is crying out for solutions and Republicans and Democrats have to bring their principles to the table and start working on solving problems," he said. Bass also said that District 2 will not want to elect a candidate to the left of Barack Obama, referencing his Democratic opponent Ann McClane Kuster. He also referenced the event he held at Castle Commons months ago, when the …

The congressman will stop by a medial development for a tour.
For the second time this year, U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass, R-NH, will stop at the Castle Commons in Windham. The first time Bass made an appearance at the location, he held a rally at what was a vacant property. Just months later that property is under extensive construction in preparation for a full-scale medical complex set to open in the fall. Bass will tour the facility, which will house Southern N.H. Internal Medicine Associates and Derry Medical Center. In mid-July, Windham Patch reported that the construction was about halfway complete. Bass will tour the facility at 49 Range Road at 2 p.m. According to a release from his campaign, he will talk about job creation and the economy. He will preface that tour with a 9 a.m. appearance at …

Two major practices are working together to rejuvenate Castle Commons.
Southern N.H. Internal Medicine Associates spent the last year away from Windham after moving out of its crammed, 2,000-square-foot office. But Windham resident and company president Dr. Edmund Schiavoni, Jr. said that he always planned on returning to his town. The problem was that the space he looked at, Castle Commons, was an 11,400-square-foot location. "It would have been way too big for us" Schiavoni said. According to Chris Nickerson, owners' representative for Castle Commons, working with other practices was important. Derry Medical Center, which already collaborates with SNHIMA at Overlook Medical Park in Derry, was brought in to fill some of the space in Windham. With it comes Derry Imaging Center, a National medical lab and a …

The location will house Windham's largest medical center.
A local construction management firm has announced that ground has been broken at Castle Commons for what will be Windham's largest medical center. Over the last year, E. Nickerson & Associates, LLC has overseen the redevelopment of the location, which will house Derry Medical Center and Southern N.H. Internal Medicine Associates. According to a release from the firm, the property design will include outside renovations for a "High end contemporary look." The goal is to play off of the look of the nearby Searles Castle. Other than the two major providers, the medical center will also a national lab service, rotating specialty suite and a satellite location for Derry Imaging. That location will include X-ray, mammography and ultrasound …

All 24,000 square feet of the building has been leased.
A lease was signed today to move a medical group into the vacant space at Castle Commons, according to owners' representative Chris Nickerson. A release from The Valentine Group, a commerical realtor in Windham led by Ralph Valentine, said that all 24,000 square feet of Castle Commons has now been leased. The medical center will include New Hampshire's two largest private practices: Southern New Hampshire Internal Medicine and Derry Medical Center. Also included in the renovated space will be Derry Imaging Center, a National Medical Lab and a Multi-Specialty Suite. The vacant area offers 11,400 square feet of space for the new businesses. Charlie Bass called the southern tier of the state the "heart and soul" of the 2nd district.
On a day when GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney all but secured the party nod with Rick Santorum's campaign suspension, the former Massachusetts governor saw an ally in N.H. Congressman Charlie Bass. "Mitt Romney would be good for New Hampshire," Bass said to a crowd of about 60 supporters at Castle Commons in Windham. He added that he is "confident" that Romney will be the next president. It wasn't the only political support that Bass dished out before entertaining the audience on some of the important state and national issues. He also praised N.H. gubernatorial candidate Ovide Lamontagne, saying that he has the kind of "well-rounded experience" to be a generational governor in the state. Lamontagne had the crowd laughing before …
