VIDEO: Abortion Funding Bill Draws Crowd

Supporters and critics of House Bill 228 give lawmakers an earful.

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee convened before a large audience at the New Hampshire Statehouse on Thursday hear House Bill 228, "prohibiting the use of public funds for abortion services." Supporters, including Ellen Kolb of Cornerstone Action in New Hampshire and Marilyn Musgrave of the Susan B. Anthony List, spoke at this news conference in advance of the hearing. State Rep. Sandra Keans, a member of the legislative Reproductive Rights Caucus who listened to their remarks, talks in the video about why she opposes the bill. The debate in Concord fanned the partisan flames around the issue, with Musgrave taking shots at President Obama and the Affordable Care Act, and the Obama For America-New Hampshire campaign arm taking…

Activists Furious After Contraception Vote [VIDEO]

NH House votes to allow employers to exempt contraception coverage based on religious objections.

A bill which would allow employers an exemption to pay for health insurance coverage for birth control if they have a religious objection was approved in the New Hampshire House by a vote of 196 to 150. The vote was held on March 7, while hundreds of women’s health advocates gathered for hours at the Statehouse urging a "No" vote on a number of bills that they say will threaten the health, safety, and privacy of women. About an hour before the vote, activists began to gather at the Statehouse for a rally.
