NH House Kills Anti-Gay Marriage Bill

Reps vote 133-202 against traditional marriage bill.

The New Hampshire House defeated a traditional marriage bill that will lead to the preservation of same-sex marriages in the Granite State. Representatives debated the issue and various amendments for nearly two hours, with supporters suggesting that the state needed to return to traditional marriage and opponents saying legislators should not be taking rights away from people. House members were requested to consider three different amendments that would have added approval of civil unions, additional language, a statewide referendum, and an amendment to consider outlawing marriage between two left-handed people. NH Pro-Gay Marriage Group Stands Its Ground [VIDEO]

Standing Up for NH Families calls for rejection of traditional marriage bill.

The statewide group promoting the preservation of same-sex marriage in New Hampshire held a press conference today to call on the Legislature to reject a traditional marriage bill that is expected to come up for a vote on Wednesday. More than 20 members of the leadership council of Standing Up for New Hampshire Families, along with family, friends, and spouses, gathered together to tell members of the press why they were involved in the group and why they believed in preserving the state’s same-sex marriage law. Attendees included many former and current Republican activists, business owners, and a former chief justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Bates to Hold Traditional Marriage Press Conference

It will take place in Concord on Tuesday.

State Rep. David Bates, R-Windham, will continue his campaign to repeal gay marriage in New Hampshire with a press conference in Concord on March 13. According to release on behalf of Bates, the conference will take place in the lobby of the Legislative Office Building at 10:30 a.m. Bates, who is the prime sponsor of House Bill 437 calling for the restoration of traditional marriage in the state, will discuss the timing of the bill and when it will come of the full House of Representatives for a vote. He will also announce the details of a floor amendment to the bill. Bates paid out of pocket for a mail campaign last month centered around getting support for the bill.
