Windham Endowment to Administer Four Scholarships

The scholarships will be made available on Feb. 1.

Scholarships will be made available from the Windham Endowment beginning Friday, Feb. 1.

As part of its support for education, the Windham Endowment proudly administers scholarships for graduating high school seniors from the Windham community, said Stephanie Wimmer, an executive committee member on the Endowment’s board of directors.

Applications will be available for four 2013 scholarships distributed by the Endowment.

The Windham Endowment Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a Windham student who has demonstrated significant involvement in community service.

The Coish Family Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a Windham High School student who participated in sports and set an example of teamwork and sportsmanship.

The Windham Women’s Business Connection – Carol A. Yennaco Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a young woman for her entrepreneurial spirit and service to community.

The Timothy Skwiot Financial Services Scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to a Windham High School student who has shown through course work and extra-curricular activities an interest in studying business at the college level.

During its inaugural year, the Endowment distributed three awards to the first graduating class of Windham High School in June 2012. The Windham Endowment Award of $1,000 went to Colby Putnam who is attending Quinnipiac University.

The Coish Family Scholarship of $1,000 went to Rachel Vignos who is attending the University of Rhode Island. The Windham Women’s Business Connection – Carol A. Yennaco Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Natalya Tausanovitch who is attending the University of Rochester.

“Our high school’s Class of 2012 had 92 percent of students going on to four- and two-year colleges,” said Julie Lichtmann, Windham High’s guidance director. “Two students joined the military.”

Lichtmann said this year the school has its first Ivy League acceptance with one student gaining early acceptance to Brown University.

“More students have interviews with other Ivy League universities,” she said. “We have one interviewing at Harvard an some at the University of Pennsylvania.”

Many Class of 2013 students have already been accepted to universities and colleges including the University of N.H., University of Maine, University of Tampa, University of Alabama, University of Vermont, Suffolk University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Simmons College in Boston, Endicott College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and the University of New Haven. This is just a partial list.

Specific information about requirements for the various awards and application processes for the Windham Endowment scholarships are detailed in the applications, which are available Feb. 1 at www.windhamendowment.org. All applications are due by April 1.
