Trick-or-Treating Moved to Nov. 6

With thousands of homes still in the dark, the town has set a new date for Halloween.

The Windham Police have issued a bulletin to the community that town trick-or-treat hours have been moved to Nov. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

According to the release, the current power line and road conditions as well as widespread outages present too many hazards to those looking to trick-or-treat. The bulletin went on to say that the department appreciates the town's patience as the current situation gets resolved.

For residents wishing to load up on some candy tonight, the Rockingham Mall in Salem is still having its annual business trick-or-treat from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be orange pumpkin signs in the windows of participating stores, and the mall is urging residents to get there as soon as it starts since they are expecting a lot of visitors.

Public safety officials are also reminding residents to treat all downed wires as live and to not touch tme. As reported last night, the regional storm shelter is currently at Londonderry High School on Mammoth Road.

People using gas generators are being reminded not to back feed into the power grid, and to also keep those generators at least 10 feet from the house.

At this moment, the majority of local businesses and offices are without power. As of 11:30 a.m., workers in the town offices were waiting for the lights to come back on. According to Town Administrator Dave Sullivan, he was told by work crews that restoration could occur soon.

Construction crews were out cleaning up branches from the wires on Route 111 this morning, but there was no sign of PSNH vehicles.
